Steve
is a long time Santa Cruz resident. He grew up in the Seacliff beach
area and at the age of twelve began playing guitar. Steve was inspired
by listening to the great lead guitarists of his era including Jeff
Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton,
and Jimmy Page.
In 1980 Steve moved to Phoenix Arizona to pursue a career in the
aerial advertising business with his friend and bandmate Rod Worthington
(son of the infamous Cal Worthington “Go see Cal and his dog
spot”).Steve joined a very popular cover band called “The
Bank” who still play in the Phoenix area. With the Bank he
honed his skills trying to memorize a song list of 120 songs and
playing well over 200 gigs in a one year period. After a while it
became a grind and Steve longed for the creative part of playing
music so he quit the “covers only” band, got married,
had kids, moved back to tha Santa Cruz area and shelved his guitar
for over 15 years.
At a super bowl party in 2000 Steve and long time friends and musicians
Larry Lee, Dave Shaver, and Bill Houder talked about jamming again.
So they formed “Don Corralitos” DC played for enthusiastic
crowds at Brittania Arms, and the Moss landing Inn before they broke
up and reformed with Steve, Larry, and a new drummer as a power
trio. DC2 played on a local live radio program, a live television
show, and performed at the “Good ole Days” festival
in Pacific Grove, as well as gigs at various pubs in the area.
DC3 reunited Steve and Craig and they formed a new power trio with
yet another drummer. During the time of DC3’s short existence
Steve met Bryan Levier Logan and the two quickly formed a friendship
/ partnership. Steve had built a studio at his home and Bryan had
the equipment and engineering skills to form a harmonious relationship.
Steve and Craig soon discovered Bryan’s enormous talent and
they decided to form “THE SOUNDCURRENT”
!!! And Steve has never been more excited about a project. Steve
is also having a great time playing in he and Craig’s acoustic
endeavor “The S.C. Project”
